Yessenia

Yessenia

Senior Veterinary Technician

Some people like to learn, while others like to teach. As a Senior Veterinary Technician at Sibley Animal Hospital, Yessenia has been able to do a little bit of both. She’s constantly learning about the different animals she sees every day and she’s able to teach people just how valuable animals are to society! She has 16 years of experience as a technician in the veterinary field and have completed some of the course work for certification as a veterinary technician.

Yessenia is a first-generation American proudly born to Guatemalan parents. She grew up nearby in the Calumet City area. She brings her bilingual talents to Sibley Animal Hospital assisting Spanish speaking pet parents get the care they need for their family member. When she was a teenager she got a job volunteering at a wildlife center working in kennels. That experience made her hungrier for more knowledge to help animals.

Ever since Yessenia was young, she has felt a kinship with animals. Her parents weren’t exactly thrilled at the sight of all the ants, squirrels, birds, kittens and raccoons she brought home. Nonetheless, they understood her need to want to help and “save” these animals. Fast forward years later, and she’s still helping animals to the best of her ability.

What exactly is it about animals that Yessenia loves? For starters, she appreciates the wide range of emotions they feel, from love to sadness to happiness. She also admires the fact that animals don’t judge, hate or discriminate. They have been there for her through her ups and downs in life, and their love is unconditional.

Dentistry is Yessenia’s favorite part of her job. She knows just how important oral hygiene is for animals, since it has an impact on the rest of their bodies.

When she’s not at the animal hospital, you can find Yessenia at home hanging out with her husband and child, or tending to her pets. She has 6 cats, 2 dogs, a parrot, a frog and a fish, so it’s safe to say she’s got a full house! Her other favorite pastimes include drawing, camping out, playing volleyball and going swimming.

Idaly

Idaly

Veterinary Assistant/Technician

Three years ago, Idaly brought her dog to Sibley Animal Hospital for a routine visit. She had no experience working in an animal clinic, but her curiosity got the best of her so she asked if they were hiring. To her delight, they were. Three years later, Idaly is a vet tech at the animal hospital and helps tend to these furry creatures every day. Talk about destiny!

Idaly’s desire to work with animals was more than about just wanting to help them. She fell in love with the innocence that animals have. Being able to witness and play a part in helping a sick or injured animal get healthy is a part of the job that she absolutely relishes. She also loves the surgical aspect of the field, as she’s constantly learning new things and keeps her on her toes.

What made Idaly decide to get into the veterinary field? It was an incident where she found a sick dog at a ranch. The dog was not only sick, it couldn’t walk and it had bruises all over his body. Idaly desperately wanted to help the dog, but she had no knowledge of animal care, so she took the dog to Sibley Animal Hospital. A month later, the dog saw a huge improvement in its health. That’s when Idaly officially knew she wanted to be a part of the magic of veterinary medicine!

Idaly spent part of her early life growing up Mexico, and the other part in America. She credits her parents and siblings for always being by her side and supporting her dream of working with animals. She brings her bilingual talents to Sibley Animal Hospital to assist Spanish speaking pet parents.

When she’s not at the animal hospital, you can find Idaly spending time with her friends and family, or enjoying one of her favorite pastimes – horseback riding. She is currently completing the coursework to become a Certified Veterinary Technician! Idaly has 2 dogs who keep her company, one of which was adopted from Sibley Animal Hospital!

Faith

Faith

Animal Care Technician/Veterinary Assistant

Everyone has a subject that they find interesting. For Faith, the field of animal anatomy has always held her interest. So it’s fitting that today she is a vet assistant at Sibley Animal Hospital. It gives her the opportunity to improve and save the lives of animals on a daily basis!

Born and raised in Calumet City, IL, Faith grew up in a large family. She was surrounded by her parents, 3 younger sisters, and 5 pets, so it’s no secret where her love of animals came from.

When Faith started working at Sibley Animal Hospital, she had a position in the kennel. As she grew more experienced with the operation, she was promoted to Animal Care Technician and now she is training to become a Veterinary Assistant. She loves working at the animal hospital because it gives her a chance to learn something new every day. Getting to work with a staff she enjoys being around isn’t a bad perk, either!

Her most memorable story involves a dog that came into the animal hospital unable to walk. Faith was able to witness firsthand the bouts of laser therapy and acupuncture that the dog underwent for months. Eventually it all worked out, as the dog regained its ability to walk, leaving its owners thrilled. It’s stories like this that make her feel like she’s making a difference.

When she’s not at the animal hospital, you can find Faith at home playing with her 5 pets, (she has 2 dogs and 3 cats) or watching animal surgeries on YouTube. She is also a huge fan of meeting the artists and band members of concerts she attends. She fondly recalls a time when was pulled on stage and actually got to sing with the band!

Sue

Sue

Lead Receptionist

Sometimes, fate puts people in the places they never knew they needed to be. Take Sue, for example. She happened to be browsing the Internet when an ad for a vet receptionist job at Sibley Animal Hospital popped up on her screen. She applied for the position, went in, met with a doctor, and then immediately knew that it was the place for her!

While Sue absolutely loves being around animals, she also loves working at the front desk. She gets a feeling of fulfillment by helping pet owners care for their pets. It all stems from a personal experience she had with her own pet.

As a young adult, she had a cat battling cancer. The vet and the staff at the animal hospital were absolutely amazing and left a lasting impression on her. They did much more than just treat her cat for the illness; they were also there for her. Sue hopes that can make clients who come into Sibley Animal Hospital feel the same way she felt dealing with the staff who treated her cat.

Hailing from Calumet City, IL, Sue grew up in a household where it was just her, her parents and their dog. After a career in customer service, she got married, had her daughter and was a stay-at-home mom.

Sue knows firsthand what it feels like to bring a pet to the hospital, so she’s eager to help people in the same position. She’s always in awe at all of the breakthroughs in veterinary medicine that bring improvements to animal’s lives.

While Sue is all about helping animals at her day job, she’s also a very devoted wife and a proud mother. She spends a lot of time with her dogs, Cici and Brooklyn, who do a marvelous job of entertaining her with their antics!

Donna

Donna

Receptionist

If you ask Donna what her favorite part about being a receptionist at Sibley Animal Hospital is, she’ll be very direct and honest. She enjoys working closely with adorable animals and their owners. More so, she loves watching puppies grow into healthy adult dogs. Donna has always wanted to be around animals, and Sibley Animal Hospital has given her a chance to live out her dream!

Donna’s first introduction in the field was as a kennel assistant. That position taught her the ins and outs of taking care of a pet’s basic needs. It also gave her a chance to tend to animals who had surgery performed on them before they were released to go home. All of these experiences gave her the knowledge and confidence to deal with animals on a daily basis.

A native of Hammond, IN, Donna has 5 siblings (4 brothers and 1 sister), all of whom she remains very close to. Her earliest memories of being a pet owner involved her AKC Shepard named Brutus, who was a mere 6-month old puppy when Donna gave birth to her first daughter. Donna was absolutely amazed at how loving Brutus was with her newborn!

When she’s got some free time, you can find Donna home with her dogs, a beagle named Marley and a Shepard mix named Annabelle. She also enjoys swimming, boating and horseback riding.

Desiree

Desiree

Receptionist

Everyone has their own personal reasons for pursuing a job position. For Desiree, her desire to pursue a position at Sibley Animal Hospital came from a memorable interaction she had with Dr. Marva Davis. Desiree had a feeling that Dr. Davis would be an amazing employer – and lo and behold, she was right. Desiree is now a receptionist at Sibley Animal Hospital and is the first friendly face clients see when they walk through the door with their pets!

Desiree’s journey at Sibley Animal Hospital began in 2018. Working at the animal hospital has given her a chance to gain valuable experience and knowledge in the veterinary field. She also enjoys working closely with a variety of different animals on a regular basis, especially since she doesn’t have any animals at home. Desiree absolutely loves seeing house cat Annabelle at the office every day; the cat makes coming to the office a better experience.

Desiree grew up in Hammond, IN, Desiree, but she also spent a large chunk of her life living in Orlando, FL. Frances

Frances

Animal Care Technician/Veterinary Assistant

Giving birth is one of the most magical and inspirational moments a person can witness. Just ask Frances. Today, Frances is a veterinary technician at Sibley Animal Hospital who works to save and help animals. She was inspired to get into the field the day she watched her beloved cat give birth to a litter of adorable kittens!

Frances enjoys working at Sibley Animal Hospital not only to help out animals, but also for personal reasons. She finds being around these furry creatures to be good therapy, as the animals lift her spirits when she’s feeling a bit down.

Frances grew up in Chicago, IL in a household with her parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Her siblings picked on her a lot, so she often found herself staying in her room with her cat. Frances explains that cats are her favorite animals because they only choose to be around people that they really like. The fact that the house cat always chose to be around her meant the world to her.

After her cat gave birth, Frances was determined to work with animals. She moved to Rapid City, SD to study a vet tech program. Her dream was to work with animals in the cat family, like lions, tigers, cougars and lynxes in the zoo, but the waiting list for vet techs was long. As fate would have it, she ended up landing a position at Sibley Animal Hospital instead, and the rest is history!

Whenever she’s got some free time, you can catch Frances going horseback riding, one of her favorite hobbies. She also loves going to the movies with her family and friends.
